- By PAULINI CURUQARA

ACTING Minister for Youth and Sports Maciu Nalumisa has called on officials from community sporting bodies to lift their standard in delivering games programs.

Speaking during the 11th Community Sports Association Forum at the Harbour Point Convention Centre in Lami on Friday, Nalumisa said the event would focus on where the direction participants would need to take.

Participants included leaders of sporting community associations from the Eastern/Central Division.

He said although the scars of the global COVID-19 pandemic was still evident in societies, the need to move the game plan to another to ensure the effective development of sports and its transition into a person’s normal routine.

“I would like to encourage you all to take this opportunity to deliberate on the gaps that still exist in sports development,” he said.

“Identify the challenges and share your ideas on ways we can address and improve our sports program with the support and contributions of stakeholders in your respective communities.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports with the Fiji National Sports Commission is prepared to assist in the great work that you have done to date through the collaboration of your youth clubs and community sports association.”

He said sports development programs should be holistic to create an environment where people felt free to participate.

“I believe in dialogue being the best way to resolve issues and planning effectively, therefore, talk with each other and support each other.”

The conference ended on Saturday.
