BOXING fans can expect another round of bounds during the Fiji Amateur Boxing Club National Competition on Saturday.

After the success of the 2023 Dayal Steels Golden Glove competition two weeks ago, boxers from different clubs around Viti Levu will be back in the ring to put on a show.

Boxing Fiji president Manasa Baravilala said this would be an opportunity for local fighters to display their skills as national selectors will be present at the event.

“This boxing event will help our national selectors get a good look at our boxers as they are still looking for boxers for the Pacific Games in November,” he said.

He thanked those who showed up to the Golden Glove competition.

“The fans’ show-up was a huge boost to our boxers, to see people gather in numbers and support the sport was a huge thing for them.”

He said a similar competition could be expected.

“With our selectors attending our boxing events until May, we expect the competition to get harder as all fighters will be aiming to make a good impression of themselves.”

Over the past few months, an increase in the participation of high school students has been noticed by Boxing Fiji. Baravilala said boxing was slowly becoming a sport that youths and young people are finding interest in.

Boxers selected to represent Fiji at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands at the end of the year will also have a chance of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics Games.

The Fiji Amateur Boxing Club National Competition will be held at the Commander Stan Brown Boxing Gym in Walu Bay, Suva.

Tickets will be sold at the entrance to the gym. Ticket for adults cost $5 and children $2.
