$140,000 assistance to charity organisations
VODAFONE ATH Fiji Foundation handed over $140,000 to 12 charity and community groups.
During the handing over to the recipients in Lautoka this week, Vodafone Fiji head of eCommerce and Digital Financial Services Shailendra Prasad said they engaged a number of groups including youth and women’s clubs.
“We are extremely proud to see the fruits of our foundation’s work across communities and charity initiatives,” he said.
“The Vodafone World of Difference has worked directly with 12 charity partners this year while the Sustainable Funding projects have partnered with 30 charities.
“I am truly proud to announce we will be handing over a $140,000 grant to 12 charity partners through our Foundation’s Sustainable Funder program.
“I must mention the many initiatives and partnerships lined up with our foundation for the year that involve digitalising charities.
“Our foundation does a lot of work that cannot fit into my speech but I will highlight a few.
“We will be engaging in Rotary Water projects for 17 communities, farming initiatives for 20 communities, $3m worth of mobility devices, income generation projects, awareness projects on women and girl-child issues and entrepreneurial projects for women’s clubs across the country.”
One of the recipients of the assistance, the Blind Persons of Fiji’s Senimelia Serua said the assistance would address one of the core functions of the organisation.
“The organisation has a band and they consist of members who are totally blind or have low vision,” she said.
“Every time the boys want to go and play they would have to hire the instruments and sound system.
“For our members, some excel academically, some in sports and some use their talent to be able to generate income for themselves.”
