Face-lift in the pipeline for border station

- By REPEKA NASIKO

THE Namaka Border Police Station will soon get a much needed face-lift.

After visiting the station recently, Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua said the station was one of the first points of contacts for international visitors in need of police assistance.

“We are trying to make your work places better,” Mr Tikoduadua

said. “I have seen some very horrific conditions in the places where you work.

“It amounts to a lot of neglect in the past but there are also some standards that have been set in the Police Force that we would like to be consistent all throughout.

“Hopefully, for the Border Police in Nadi we are talking with the commissioner and to some people who can get some things for this place because it is essential.

“We can look after our image particularly for the people that come to see us for the first time.

“Not that we are trying to hide our image, but we have to display a standard where we look after our own people well so we can do our work well.”

Mr Tikoduadua said he was committed to ensuring that the role of the Police Force was strengthened.

“I can only promise you my commitment in the work that you do as much as I can within the limitations of what Government can do and provide the support for you to do your work.

“Not only that but also to allow you to look after your families well.

“The Fiji Police Force is a family as you are but you must also look after your families too.

“Stress from work can carry on home and I know sometimes that police officers can end up in the same hot water like everyone else but we have to be mindful that the expectations are a little bit greater for us.”
