PM: We need capable people to stand for elections
WE need capable people to stand for elections, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
While speaking at the 2023 BSP Life Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) Convention in Denarau recently, he said the success of institutions that developed Fiji’s human resource should be reflected in the country’s leadership.
“We in the Government appreciate what you do,” he said.
“The governments of the future should show and reflect the success of your programs.
“The calibre of people who stand up for elections not only at national elections but also in our municipal elections.
“We need people who are capable. Not only capable to do the work, but capable of learning and absorbing the newer and the newest technology and the application of what they have learnt.”
He said the Prime Minister for Australia and New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister, during their visit last week, had expressed their appreciation of
Fiji’s development.
“You have contributed to that and I urge you to continue.
“When we have senior civil servants sitting here, I hope that more senior civil servants come to your conferences and liaise with you.
“Liaise with your leaders and benefit from what you have and from what you can impart into the senior echelon of the civil service.
“I encourage you to do that even to the members of Cabinet and the members of Parliament.
“We would like to have leisurely talks with you.
“Tell us what is wrong with us or tell us what can be done to better those that we lead, those that we command.”
He added that the 320 human resources practitioners attending the two-day event was a demonstration of their commitment to the institute’s work.
“You coming here demonstrates your appreciation of what the institute does but also demonstrates a hunger for better, for more and you can only satisfy that hunger when you interact with each other during this conference.”
