OUR Shopper of the week is Meliana Senievo-Tuilau, the Tree House Boutique Shop manager. She shops every fortnight, focusing on her seven and one-year-old children.

As a working mother who loves both her job and her family, convenience is a priority. NEWWORLD IGA, located close to her workplace, is her preferred destination for family shopping needs.

“Balancing work and motherhood is challenging, but I genuinely love what I do. Being based at FNPF Plaza is convenient for me.

I shop at NEWWORLD IGA on the ground floor every fortnight for groceries. Thursday is our preferred shopping day, allowing enough time for Sabbath preparations on Friday,” she said.

Her first stops are the fruit and cereal aisles, where she selects what her children need. With each child having different fruit preferences, Mrs. Tuilau ensures she picks the right items.

“Navigating the grocery aisles, my first stop is the fruit section, ensuring we don’t forget these essentials. Fruits and cereals are staples for my children, each with their preferred choices like apples, grapes, and pears.

“Cornflakes are a favorite, and porridge is a must for the kids. Following that, I pick up our main home groceries like flour, sugar, and rice. With three adults and two kids at home, our shopping needs are relatively modest.

“We don’t purchase much meat regularly, reserving it for special occasions like Sabbath. Instead, our shopping carts are filled with veggies, fruits, snacks, and cereal for the kids, along with milk and Rewa Butter.

“Vegetables are bought on the day they are needed, typically for a light dinner after the kids’ heavy lunch.”

Mrs. Tuilau mentions that their family prefers eggs and canned food over meat, especially given rising food prices.

”Our budget hovers around 250300, given the current expensive prices of food. Canned goods, such as soups, complement our meals, as we usually prefer eggs or canned items over meat dishes at home.”

She encourages shoppers to be wise in choosing supermarkets and emphasises that children must be a priority, especially when it comes to food.

“If NEWWORLD is not an option, Extra Supermarket is our next goto place, chosen for the quality of fruits and groceries it offers.

“Trust is crucial, especially when it comes to ensuring the food we buy for our children isn’t expired. We’ve had bad experiences buying from other shops and having the food we buy expired.

While that may be a non-issue for adults, having children in a house should be enough reason for parents to buy the best for their kids.”
