From Fb friends to lovers

PEOPLE encounter love at various points in their lives and some are lucky enough to find their forever soulmates.

Akansha Prasad, 28 and Vikrant Kant, 29, attended the same high school, but never had the opportunity to have an interaction.

It was a few years after when Vikrant’s name popped up on Akanksha’s Facebook in the ‘people you may know section’ that their story began.

Akansha instantly recognised him and sent a friend request in 2021 and recalled that their first meet was at The Grace Road Kitchen at Wailoaloa, Nadi.

That night was also Vikrant’s birthday.

“My first impression of him was that he looked serious, but after we started talking, I found out that he was not only funny, but a passionate person too,” Akansha shared.

There was an instant attraction and they both felt this deep connection they had not felt with anyone else.

“He was genuine, sincere, and completely honest about everything right up which was refreshing in today’s fating world.”

For Vikrant, Akansha was one of the most beautiful and simple person he had met in his life and said the universe had brought them together at the right time.

“On the day we actually met, it was raining and she was glowing with all sort of positive energy,” Vikrant said.

“It was quite interesting cause the time flew so fast when we were together and it seemed like we knew each other for ages.”

The couple dated for two years before uniting in marriage on November 25, 2023.

Akansha said she proposed to Vikrant first, but was told that they should date a couple of months.

“But then the following week he proposed to me with a ring hidden in the sand which he cunningly made me search saying he dropped some coins.”

For Vikrant, Akanksha’s proposal had caught him off guard as he was already thinking of how to pop the question to her but in the end it all worked out for the best.

They said the wedding planning was hectic as it was the first in Akansha’s family and since losing her father in 2017, her dad’s older brother stepped in to help.

The five-day celebration was filled with joy, excitement and cherished memories for the pair and their families.

Day one was the ‘Tilak’ ceremony where the exchanging of gifts took place ,and a small pooja (prayer) ritual was done which indicated the start of the wedding ceremonies.

Preparation then began for the three big days ahead which was the telwaan/mehndi ceremony, the bhatwaan and the wedding day, as more than 600 guests were anticipated.

“The big day, what all the hype and preparation was all for had come.”

It was a calm and sunny day, and when the groom arrived, dancing began from both sides of the family indicating the love and support they had.

Then the groom was formally welcomed by the bride’s family with flowers, garlands and gifts.

After Vikrant was led to the mandap (a covered structure with pillars), Akansha entered with her flower girls before the pair went sevens times around the sacred fire making a lifetime commitment together.

“The hardest part was seeing my loved ones cry even though I was only going to be 20 minutes away from my house. It was sad to see tears in their eyes, and this made me cry as well.”

The couple said the highlight of the week was the reception night which was personally organised by Vikrant at The Lab nightclub.

“This was for all the people that helped in the wedding in anyway they could. More than 100 people attended this event, and they danced the night away.”

The lovebirds say that ups and downs will always be there, but remembering to work as a team was always important, and they work at this each day in their cherished union. -
