Police Blue claims title

- By NACANIELI TUILEVUKA

POLICE Blue are the new winners of the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s men’s division after defeating Sydney Tilivabukuya in the final at Holy Cross Ground in Taveuni yesterday.

A hard-fought 12-0 was enough to walk away with the prize money of $12,000 and a trophy.

They defeated last year’s winner Wardens Gold 22-17 in the semi-final.

This is their third tournament win on the Fiji Bitter Series.

Coach Sale Tubuna said they never dreamt of winning the tournament as they only had three days to prepare for the tournament.

Tubuna said his advice to the players was to play their hearts out in every game.

“Their discipline and game plan were up to standard since day one,” he said.

He said they managed to win the tournament through teamwork.

“Even though we have some former Fiji 7s players in the team, I always remind them while wearing the blue jersey, we are all team police,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tagimoucia Ranadi won the women’s competition for the second consecutive year after thrashing Masiniyavu Pearl 14-0.

Tagimoucia Ranadi founder Ana Rabuka said they were adamant of defending the title.

“The honour goes back to the Almighty for giving the women the strength,” she said.

In other results, Navy won the bowl after defeating Koolwater Babas 10-0 while Police White took home the plate after winning against BLK Lavidi 14-5 in the men’s division.

Barbarian Girls won the netball competition after defeating Wardens Gold 21-17, Nawaka Lions won the soccer competition after defeating Combine Brothers 2-1 while Police won the men’s competition of the volleyball after two straight sets win against Red Light.
