THE Pillay Garments Champions versus Champion series opener remains on schedule for Sunday, according to Fiji Football chief executive Mohammed Yusuf.

The series will see Lautoka take on Ba in two matches, the first being held this weekend.

Addressing concerns raised by the public because of the heavy rain season, Yusuf assured they are closely monitoring the weather.

Yusuf confirmed any decisions regarding the match will be made on Saturday. As of now, the game is proceeding as planned for Sunday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

“It is too early to decide now. The match is still on at Churchill Park which has a good irrigation system, and it is in perfect condition. We will continue to monitor the weather and we will make our decision on Saturday,” Yusuf said.

Yusuf also confirms ticket sales will start from the Lautoka City Council office today.

Meanwhile, Ba football cocaptain Etonia Dogalau expressed confidence in his team’s chances.

“We have been preparing well since this week, we respect Lautoka, but we are confident that it will be a good show,” he explained.

Dogalau and Misiwani Nairube will share the captaincy role for Ba in this year’s CVC.

Earlier on, Lautoka football president Shalen Prasad challenged his players to retain the Pillay Garments Champion versus Champion trophy in the Sugar City.

“Ba football is a good side and as we all know Ba only played five games in the IDC tournament and qualified for the CVC whereas Lautoka had to struggle the whole year to book their spot,” Prasad said.

The match on Sunday kicks off at 3pm.
