THE Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is approaching each tournament with a “knockout” mentality.

This was according to head coach Saiasi Fuli as they continue training for the Perth 7s tournament in Australia which will kick off on Friday.

The team left the country on

Sunday and wasted no time at the Christ Church Grammar Playing Fields in Perth as they aim to start the new season on a winning note.

“We are treating every game as a final and knockout system,” Fuli stated in an interview with this newspaper.

“The current HSBC SVNS Series is tough because every team is trying to qualify for the grand final in Madrid, Spain so we have to treat each game with utmost importance.”

Fijiana was drawn in Pool B with France, Brazil, and Spain.

“It’s good to be challenged and that’s the way forward for us. We are in a tough pool, and we want to start the new year on a positive note,” the head coach added.

Their opening match will be against Brazil at 4pm before facing Spain at 8.47pm on Friday.

They face France in their last pool game on Saturday at 2.22pm.

The Fijiana sit in fourth place on the HSBC SVNS Series after the opening two rounds in Dubai and Cape Town. The side is placed behind Australia, France, and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, the Fiji 7s side will take on Samoa in their opener at 6.38pm before they battle France at 11.31pm on Friday.

On Saturday, they will take on New Zealand at 5.25pm.

The side is in third place on the standings with Argentina and South Africa leading the race.
