THE discovery of more than four tonnes of methamphetamine within the Jet Set Town residential properties has prompted the chiefs of Nadi to work closely with police to fight drug abuse and usage in their locality.

Assistant Commissioner of

Police Livai Driu said he spoke with the chiefs of the vanua o Nadi last week to plea for their assistance in this fight to eradicate drugs.

The senior police officer said the 797 medium-sized containers of methamphetamine discovered from Legalega has also prompted the need for stakeholders to work together as the vacant home is located on a native leased land.

“I would like to applaud their support after the drug haul here at Legalega,” ACP Driu said.

“Looking at the situation surrounding the drug bust we were surprised that Nadi is where most users are from, and I applaud them stepping forward to support.

“We’ve also pleaded with them to have a database and details of people leasing on their tribal lands to ensure they are on par and are aware of such activities.”

ACP Driu explained the support from the three Nadi chiefs was quite reassuring and he’s also informed them that such a collaborative stance would allow them to weed out drug usage and other criminal activities in their villages.

“If they are not going to be vigilant or careful of people living in their domain, it can also affect villagers who are vulnerable.

“The community also have a huge part to play, they need to be responsible, and I acknowledge the Nadi chiefs for the bold stance they’ve undertaken.”
