THE Ba Rugby Union is closely monitoring the weather for the upcoming Battle of The Bridge, scheduled for tomorrow.

Despite heavy rain affecting the country, union secretary Gabby Kautoga assures that it won’t significantly impact their season’s preparation, as players have been diligently training since the pre-season.

Kautoga also confirms that they’ve received communication from Fiji Rugby Union, requesting the squad list by Wednesday next week.

“If the rain persists, we may need to cancel the match, but it won’t hinder our preparation, given our extended squad’s continuous training,” he said.

THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua is renegotiating with players whose contracts are near expiring.

Head of commercial and marketing Shane Hussein said this was a work in progress which they treated with high confidentiality.

“There are no new signings to announce now, we have five rookies in the squad so far. If there is anything, it’s not ready yet but as of now, there is no one new or any surprises.

“We are always a step ahead and renegotiating with those players whose contracts are expiring so that’s all a work in progress. I can’t give the names now as these discussions are quite sensitive and it doesn’t need to be a distraction as we are close to the start of the new season.”

With less than 50 days to go to the start of the 2024 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, the Drua are raring to go.

“Preparations for the season is going well; last week we moved to our very own training field which is five minutes away from our office.

“The boys now do not have to spend an hour and a half on the bus travelling to Prince Charles Park or the International School ground, all these little things help the boys in their preparation.

“They came back from the holidays in better shape than they had done in the past two seasons so that’s very good news. A lot less tests to be conducted so we are happy about that; I talk to the players every day and they are ready to go.”

The Fijian Drua will play its first match against the Blues at Semenoff Stadium in Whangarei, New Zealand on February 24 at 3.35pm.
