IN honor of the late actor Irrfan Khan, G5A, a Mahalaxmi-based performance space dedicated to experimental and independent arts, is organising a three-day retrospective titled ‘Irrfan (1967 – 2020): A Retrospective.’ The event, curated by G5A Cinema House and filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, pays homage to Irrfan’s timeless contribution to cinema, immortalising characters like Maqbool, Yogi, Rana, Ashoke, and Saajan.

From January 26 to 28, the retrospective will feature screenings of Irrfan’s most memorable films, spanning classics such as The Lunchbox, Paan Singh Tomar, and Mira

Nair’s The Namesake, to audience favorites like Piku, Qarib Qarib Singlle, and Talvar.

Expressing her sentiments, writer-actress and Irrfan’s wife, Sutapa Sikdar, shared, “I remember when he left us, my only desire was to celebrate him every day, in every way. What better way to remember him than celebrating his work.” The retrospective, a collaboration between G5A Cinema House and Nikkhil Advani, aims to honour Irrfan’s legacy by showcasing his exceptional cinematic journey.

Late Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar talks about why women found her husband ‘sexy’ – ‘He wasn’t your typical macho man’.

Nikkhil Advani, reflecting on Irrfan’s impact on his directorial approach, credited the actor for his role in making D-Day (2013) a milestone in his career. He expressed his excitement about curating Irrfan’s most special films for the retrospective, grateful for the participation of actors, directors, producers, writers, and collaborators who willingly contributed to paying homage to the consummate artist.

The retrospective stands as a heartfelt tribute, ensuring that Irrfan Khan’s cinematic brilliance continues to resonate with audiences.
