Boxer impresses
ZENITH Ligaqaqa is an impressive young boxer who has already attained remarkable success in his budding career.
At just nine-years-old, he has participated in nine bouts, winning six and losing three.
One of his recent victories was at the Golden Gloves competition, where he clinched the gold medal in the U11, 30kg category against opponent Leone Naivi. This competition took place at the Commander Stanley Brown Gym in Walu Bay.
Ligaqaqa’s passion for the sport was ignited when he was only five-years-old. At that age, he had already honed his jab and started boxing at the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, and training under Army Boxing Club.
His motivation to pursue boxing stemmed from watching his older brothers, Stephen Ledua and Ocean Ledua, who were already excelling in the sport.
He strives to compete with them and pushes himself to outmatch their achievements, showcasing his determination and competitive spirit.
His dedication and hard work have undoubtedly contributed to his success, as he persists in his training and is committed to reaching new milestones.
The life of a young boxer is not without its challenges, but his willingness to train vigorously and uphold the same standards as elite athletes sets him apart.
“Life of a young boxer is tough but not hard, I like training in the early hours of the morning,” said Ligaqaqa.
“I always train with the big boys, and this helps me to push myself during training, I go through the exact same program the elite boxers go through, really helps me a lot.
“For boxing it keeps me disciplined, humble and it’s a sport that helps in selfdefense and protecting myself from any danger.” he added.
Ligaqaqa’s primary objectives for the year are to keep his spot in the Army Boxing Club and earn a place in the National Development Squad.
He recognizes the level of commitment required to achieve these goals and remains optimistic about the future of boxing in his country.
The young boxer attributes much of his success to the support and guidance of his coach, Tomasi Dago, and team manager Nasoni Ligaloa, to whom he expresses his gratitude.
