MOU reaffirms partnership
THE Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) and Tourism Fiji yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding, reaffirming their partnership towards sustainable waste management practices ahead of the Global Recycling Day on March 18.
Announcing the partnership in Nadi yesterday, Tourism Fiji chief operations officer Leigh Howard said Fiji as a premier destination is known for its pristine and untouched nature, hence their commitment lies in ensuring that growth lies with sustainability.
“Our mission is to showcase Fiji’s natural beauty, culture and authenticity, while actively addressing crucial issues such as climate change inclusively,” he said.
Mr Howard added that one of the key objectives together with Pacific Recycling Foundation was to roll out several i-Recycle Hub sites across Wailoaloa, Natadola and several hotels within the industry.
“We are urging not only recycling within the tourism industry but also in our communities, corporate businesses and educational institutions.”
Amitesh Deo, founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation said Tourism Fiji remained a key ally in their mission to instill a culture of responsible waste management, particularly crucial within the tourism industry.
“Collaborative efforts between PRF and Tourism Fiji underscore a shared commitment to drive positive change in waste management practices, foster a cleaner, greener environment that is essential for the sustainability of Fiji’s tourism industry,” Mr Deo said.
Around 1000 stakeholders, recycling and environment advocates and industry leaders are expected at this year’s Global Recycling Day festivities.
