THE Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s tournament is expected to be an exciting and impactful event, and the anticipation is building as it gears up to unfold its rugby spectacle at the ninth leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series.

Taking place in Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park on February 9-10, this vibrant event is poised to captivate rugby enthusiasts.

The generous sponsorship by Paradise Beverages of $15,000 is a significant contribution that will aid in the development of grassroots rugby.

The tournament will feature 32 men’s teams, with a grand prize of $8000, eight women’s teams competing for a grand prize of $1500, and 16 under 18-21 teams with a prize money of $2000.

Paradise Beverages general manager Mike Spencer highlighted the broader impact of the tournament, stating that the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s series not only promises thrilling rugby but also serves as a catalyst for community development.

He also recognised that Nahehevia has been a hotspot for producing talented Fijian players and commended the impact Nahehevia team has had on players, many of who have secured contracts abroad.

“Nadroga and Navosa have produced many great Fijian players over the years, Nahehevia itself is the home of flanker Peceli Yato who is currently playing for a French club,” said Spencer.

“I wish the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s series all the best and a successful tournament,” he added.

Tournament co-ordinator Marika Kurisese emphasised the tournament’s impact in supporting community development initiatives, such as the upgrade of schoolteachers’ quarters and village projects.

“Building on last year’s success, teams will partake in a tree planting exercise, aligning with environmental sustainability and community involvement,” said Kurisese.

“Thanking Paradise Beverages for their huge support and helping Fijians in grassroots rugby.” he added.
