- By ANASILINI NATOGA

THE Nadroga Rugby Union is set to receive a substantial boost with the inclusion of 11 players from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and four players from the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s squad for the upcoming season.

The confirmation of these additions was announced by Nadroga president Jiuta Waqavonovono.

Waqavonovono revealed the 11 players from the Drua squad were given the opportunity to choose their provincial team, and they enthusiastically opted to play for Nadroga.

This decision is seen as a significant enhancement for the team, promising to elevate their preparation levels for the upcoming season.

“The inclusion of the four 7s players will provide an additional boost,” Waqavonovono remarked.

The names of the 11 Drua players have been officially released to Nadroga’s coaches, a move aimed at assisting these players in maintaining their game time in intensified matches.

“For the Drua players, their participation will be limited to the week of their respective game day,” Waqavonovono said.

If they are not listed in the lineup on that day, they will join the Nadroga squad.

As the competition dates draw closer, Nadroga has intensified its pre-season training, gearing up to face Macuata in the opening match on February 24.

Recognising the challenge of playing on Macuata’s home turf, Waqavonovono acknowledged the strength of their opponents and anticipates a formidable performance from Macuata in their first home round.

“Playing Macuata on their home soil will not be easy and we know Macuata will come out strong and will want to win their first round at home.

“Our players have been preparing well and senior players of the team knows onus is on them as they expect intensified matches this season,” Waqavonovono said.
