Obituary — Vinod Patel 1940 — 2024
THE late businessman and former parliamentarian Vinod Patel, 84, passed away last month at the Aspen Hospital in Lautoka after a short illness.
His daughter Lina Patel said her late father lived a life that was inspirational to many.
He had a passion for life and shared his love that was unmatched, she said.
In a heartfelt eulogy Ms Patel shared that her father was someone who would encourage people to become the best versions of themselves.
“He was a wellknown businessman while being a former parliamentarian.
“Growing up with dad was fun and fulfilling,” Ms Patel said. “His love for mum was so pure.
“He taught us to enjoy life and value unity,” according to reports in his newspaper.
Ms Patel said that despite having a busy schedule with work and national responsibilities, her dad the founder of the Vinod Patel Group taught his children an important lesson – to always be there for people.
“He was the best dad.
“He was fiercely loyal and achieved success from the kindness of his heart.”
Many Fijians, know of the household name, Vinod Patel. Any mention would be linked with materials and items for hardware, industrial equipment and many more.
However very few would know about the founder who shared the same name.
His company is said to be one of the biggest hardware outlets in the South Pacific with more than 2000 staff and 30,000 products on offer.
Mr Patel had a humble beginning. His family previously owned a small grocery outlet in Vatulaulau, Ba.
His heart resonated with the plight of the poor, propelling him to be a beacon of hope for those in need. Beyond merely establishing a business, he forged a legacy steeped in compassion and modesty.
Mr Patel was a life member of the National Federation Party.
Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad as a man who could never compromise his principles.
“He wasn’t about self-interest or personal advancement,” Mr Prasad said.
Mr Patel is survived by his wife Manjukaben Patel, three children and his grandchildren.
