Boy’s act of kindness moves officer

- By SAINIMILI MAGIMAGI

IT’S not every day that we hear about young children asking their parents to fork out money from their savings account to help others.

And this is why Arnav Vignesh Kumar, an Year 7 student at Nehru Primary School in Suva, deserves special mention.

The 12-year-old was so fascinated by the dedication of police officers who worked in the torrential rain over the few weeks, he approached his father to donate electrical appliances to the Fiji Police

Force so they could have ‘warm meals’ and ‘hot tea’.

“One day as we went through the Suva-Nausori corridor, I saw officers braving the rain doing their jobs,” he said.

“They were wet, soaked in rain, and I felt emotional.

“I asked my dad if I could take out some money from my savings account to buy items for them.”

His father, Pradeep Kumar, was so moved by his son’s request, he bought 30 electrical appliances, 10 pieces each of kettle, toaster, and frying pan.

Mr Kumar said his son was a humble child with a soft heart.

He said his family has carried out charity work in the past, but this time it was different.

“I am grateful and happy knowing that my son has started young engaging in such positive initiatives,” Mr Kumar said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu applauded Arnav for his act of kindness.

“To have a young child concerned enough to lend a hand, that sets a benchmark for children his age,” he said.

“This goes on to show that people are acknowledging our officers and their effort in keeping the community safe.”

He said they will be distributing the items to community posts in the Southern Division.
