- By ANASILINI NATOGA

HEAD coach Angeline Chua proudly shared the strides her team had made in the four weeks leading up to the Olympic qualifiers.

The Digicel-sponsored Kula side departed for Samoa yesterday.

With the focus on the upcoming challenge, Chua said the players’ commitment was to take “it one match at a time”, as the side aimed to top the group.

“The girls have been good, they have been preparing for four weeks,” Chua stated, her confidence evident.

“Our first task is to top the group and we will take one match at a time,” she added.

An essential addition to the team, overseas-based player Priya Singh, was highlighted by Chua for blending well with the U19 girls.

“Priya has jelled well with the U19 girls,” Chua said.

“She fit in quickly.”

Chua said the cohesion within the team was evident as most of the squad comprised of U20 players preparing for the Women’s World Cup in Colombia later in the year, along with a significant presence of senior players.

“Majority team members of the team is U20 squad preparing for the Women’s World Cup in Columbia this year and half are senior players,” she added.

Adding extra strength to the squad are three players who showcased their skills in Australia last season, making their mark in the 2022 Nations Cup.

Chua expressed excitement about these experienced players returning to represent Fiji.

“The three players who were playing in Australia last season were part of the 2022 Nations Cup.

“They are excited to be representing Fiji again.

“It is an extra-strength we have for Fiji,” Chua said.

As the team united in purpose and spirit, their journey to the Olympic qualifiers became not just a pursuit of victory but a collective effort to showcase the strength and unity that makes Fiji proud.

With each player contributing their skills and experience, the anticipation grew for the challenges that lay ahead, embodying the essence of a team ready to conquer the world stage.
