Tabadamu serious on mission

- By MELI LADDPETER

THE EMS Tabadamu side will be treating every match as the final when they compete at the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s tournament in Sigatoka this weekend.

Team manager Ulaiasi Bolalailai said the side was looking to prove themselves this weekend at Lawaqa Park.

“We have participated in three Fiji Bitter 7s tournaments so far and we have seen how small teams have slowly started to show us bigger teams that they have what it takes to compete,” he said.

“And that’s something we have learned, and it taught us not to take any team lightly and to treat every match as a final.”

The Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s tournament is set to kick off this weekend with a total of 32 men’s teams, 16 youth teams, and eight women’s teams.

Bolalailai said the side’s training schedule has not changed over the past few months, despite not winning any of the three Fiji Bitter tournaments so far this year.

“Nothing has changed, our training schedules and our targets for all the tournaments are still the same, he said.

“However, the boys have been working hard over these past few weeks and they are all aware of our goal at the Nahehevia 7s.”

The EMS Tabadamu side has produced national reps over the years including the likes of Terio Tamani, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Jone Vota, Suliano Volivoli, and Peni Gaunimeke to name a few.

“Our club includes players from Suva, Ra, and Nadroga who have turned to pursue 7s rugby in hopes of making it to the national team.

“Rugby is now viewed as a way out for most youths in today’s society in making a living and that is the situation for most of our players.”

The two-day event is expected to put on a brilliant display of grassroots 7s rugby as teams prepare to battle it out for top honours this weekend.
