Kulas aim high

- By JOHN CHETTY

THE Digicel Fiji Kulas aim to continue their strong performance as they prepare for their next OFC Olympic Qualifier match against Papua New Guinea in Apia, Samoa tomorrow.

Despite a resounding 10-nil victory against American Samoa in their first match on Wednesday, head coach Angelina Chua believes there is still room for improvement.

Chua highlighted the need for the team to work on their finishing and decision-making on the field, acknowledging that experience and more game time are crucial for further development.

“I think lacking just a little bit on the finishing part and a little bit of decision-making on the field, you know that will come with experience and playing a lot of matches, so I think those were the key moments of the game,” said Chua.

Chua also commended the young players for their outstanding effort, emphasising their seamless integration with the senior players.

Senior player Cema Nasau, who was named the player of the match, believes the young players are on the right track.

“We are trying to put the young players to play in the national team because the time will come when we retire, and they can put Fiji up,” said Nasau, who scored a hat-trick, added.

Next Tuesday, the side will play their final pool match against the Solomon Islands at 10am.

Meanwhile, Pacific Games gold medallists Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands played to a 1-all draw on Wednesday.

Samoa left it late to beat Vanuatu 1-0 from a penalty with the final kick of the game. New Zealand beat Tonga 3-0 in their quest to qualify for their fifth straight Olympic Women’s Football Tournament, in Paris in August.
