Reds rugby legends hold school clinic
STUDENTS and teachers at Suva Methodist Primary School were thrilled to host Queensland Reds legends Radike Samo and Digby Ioane during a dynamic rugby clinic on Wednesday.
Leading the charge was Queensland Reds development officer Steve Meehan, flanked by the illustrious Wallabies great Samo, boasting 23 caps with the Wallabies and an impressive 69 Super Rugby caps, along with the formidable winger Ioane, who notched up 35 caps with Australia and a remarkable 89 caps with the Reds.
The two 2011 Super Rugby champions are hosting sporting clinics this week as part of a delegation from Trade and Investment Queensland.
SMPS schoolteacher Lasarusa Senibale described the session as nothing short of exhilarating.
The action kicked off on the field with the students immersing themselves in the fundamentals of rugby.
This was followed by an impactful session with the teachers, where Radike Samo passionately shared the inspiring narrative of his journey to success.
Touching down in Nadi at the crack of dawn on Wednesday, the Reds team swiftly hopped onto their connecting flight to Nausori, making a beeline for Toorak to engage in a transformative session with students and teachers at SMPS.
Teachers and students were moved by Samo’s success story where he shared his struggles as a young boy being raised by a single mum.
“It was a really good session and SMPS is lucky to have them in our school. It was really touching to us when Radike Samo shared his success story on how rugby got him off from struggle after being raised by a single mother,” Senibale added.
The Reds team started their rugby clinic journey in Samoa before coming to Fiji. They will be in the West this week before flying out later today.
