Young players blending in with seniors
SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua lock Isoa Nasilasila says he is happy with how new and younger players have been blending with the side over the past few weeks.
The Drua features a handful of new players who recently joined the squad, and the lanky forward believes their addition to the team brings about new and exciting talent.
“I’m very happy with how the new and younger players have been blending with the squad and you can see how talented they are after our preseason match against the Brumbies last week,” the 24-year-old said.
“They’re always excited and happy to learn from us the senior players in the team and it just shows that they are looking to better themselves as a player.”
The Viseisei lad from Vuda, who was one of the top lineout performers in the 2023 Shop N Save Super Rugby season, said having younger players in the squad was also beneficial for senior players, opening them to new and different perspectives of the game.
“They are always eager to learn more and give their opinions on the aspects of the game which can also be an eye-opener to us the senior players.
“It’s just a different atmosphere having these new young bucks around, and I know they will go far in their career by looking at the way they take heed of the advice given by senior players in the squad.”
Nasilasila has played 27 of the 29 official Super Rugby matches in which the Drua have competed, making him the most capped player in the squad.
Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians lock said he was looking forward to stepping onto the field for the 2024 season.
“My goal is to just give my best this season as we want to perform better than we did last year,” he said.
“Training has been going well over the past few weeks, all the boys are in high spirits and we all can’t wait for the season to start.”
