Park under threat
This is a dead end and any debris or waste or whatever will eventually collect here because the gravity of the wind will push it

A POPULAR marine adventure park which is intended to give tourists a unique Fijian experience on Nadi’s Fantasy Island is under what it claims is an environmental threat following the recent discovery of dead fish and other marine creatures.
Owner and managing director Abbas Ali hopes investigations will be carried out to establish the root of the problem threatening the $1.5million recreational facility.
Mr Ali suspects sewer water seeped into the lake recently and caused the death of more than 50 marine creatures.
“If you look at the volume of grey water that comes into the lake, it is a huge quantity and it’s quite obvious that there was a leak somewhere,” a concerned Mr Ali said.
“I feel for the fish dying in numbers. The major concern is that this greyish water comes in with the tide from the culvert that connects to the marina here.
“This is a dead end and any debris or waste or whatever will eventually collect here because the gravity of the wind will push it.”
Mr Ali said they hoped the relevant authorities would be able to determine the cause of the contamination and find a solution to it.
“We called the Ministry of Environment. They had a look at it and tried to find out the cause and they too couldn’t tell where it was coming from. The black and greyish water coming into the aqua park during high tide comes in large quantities. That is our major concern and we need to put a stop to it now.”
Permanent secretary for Environment Dr Sivendra Michael, confirmed receiving queries saying his team would formulate a response.
