Manager explains pathways
IN an exclusive session for provincial unions, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua general manager Nico Andrade outlined the comprehensive structure, pathways, and selection process for Drua players.
FRU operations manager and tournament director Jikoibau Matawalu explained this illuminating presentation extended to the strategic engagement of Drua players in local competitions, notably the Skipper Cup and Vodafone Vanua Cup.
“The provincial unions were also fortunate to have a session by the Drua Rugby GM who presented on Drua structure, pathways, and selection process. He also mapped out the player engagement process of Drua players in our local competitions such as the Skipper Cup and Vodafone Vanua Cup,” Matawalu said.
As the Drua and provincial unions collaboratively chart a course for player development, Matawalu explores how these insights are set to inject new energy and talent into the Skipper Cup. He also confirmed preparation grants for provincial unions have been released.
“Preparations are well underway, with partial preparation funds released to assist unions. Grateful to the sponsors for the early release of funds that allows us to accommodate the needs of the unions,” he said.
“We feel much closer to the unions and can hear out their grievances which we will put all efforts into addressing effectively and to ensure that this 2024 season is a success,” he added.
Coaches and match officials also went through proper training.
“We have also ensured that coaches, match officials, and medical personnel undergo proper training and accreditation as well as match officials,” he said.
