Wame learns Chinese

-

*Wame Raiwalui Boginivalu - Now learning Chinese language in Jilin University, and will study Clinic Medicine in Dalian Medical University this September.

Bula Vinaka and Nihao everyone!

"My name is Wame Raiwalui Boginivalu and I am a 2023 recipient of the China Government Scholarship.

Currently, I am in my first year of Chinese Language studies at Jilin University in Changchun City and so far I have certainly enjoyed the experience."

"This is my first time to travel overseas and I'm grateful that China was the first country that I went to. Coming to this place has really opened my eyes to very new things. It took some time adapting to this new place especially with a different kind of weather since it was always sunny and hot back home.

Further, I studied in the North East side of China where it can be very, very cold.

We are currently in winter and temperatures have been hitting an all time low of negative 20 degrees every time."

"One thing I can say with certainty on my study experience is how efficient classes are delivered and how the curriculum is very intense. Everyday we have homework and we're always learning something new.

In the process I had to change my perspective of things and saw this as an opportunity to develop myself given the nature of work that awaits me in the future. I am grateful to my teachers for encouraging me to be hardworking."

"During my stay here, I have learned a bit about how the locals like to live their daily lives. I could definitely testify that being hardworking and being friendly are part of their culture.

Six months ago, I would have never believed I'd get to know so much of the Chinese language. I'm enjoying learning it everyday even though it can be challenging at times."

"Regardless I am confident that come the end of my stay in the next few years, I would be able to fluently speak Mandarin.

So I thank the Chinese Embassy in Fiji and the Chinese Scholarship Council for giving me the opportunity to pursue my studies here. I encourage students who are interested in applying for the scholarship to come experience China for themselves. Wishing everyone back at home a blissful Chinese New Year!."

?? Picture: SUPPLIED ?? Since Spring Festival falls on the Chinese New Year, it is a very significant festival in China. Despite their distance, it is the time of the year when they get together as a family.
