- By MELI LADDPETER

WITH the 37th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament set to kick start this weekend, the PSM Aflame Brothers Under-21 side will be out to defend their status as defending champions of the tournament.

The side, which is based in Nasama Village in Nadroga, consists of youngsters who have turned to rugby as a career to pursue.

Team manager Emanuel Fumanu said that while many youngsters in their province may not be intellectually gifted, they certainly have gifts and talents in the sport of rugby.

“The team is based in Nasama village, Sigatoka, and is comprised of young boys who have not finished school but have a talent for rugby,” he said.

“The boys are here for the 37th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s to showcase the gift that God has given them and to demonstrate their faith that they may follow their goals and have a brighter future.”

While the side is unwavering in their quest to defend their title, they are aware that there are many teams in the tournament who will be looking to take their status as champions.

“The boys are putting in a lot of effort and have started the preparations.

“They have been working hard, pushing themselves to the maximum to improve their mental and physical abilities and increase their levels of fitness.

“They have been concentrating on tactical strategies, enhancing coordination and developing a deeper comprehension of the game, with commitment and a strong feeling of collaboration”

“This tournament is an opportunity for players to showcase the talent, dedication, and love for the sport while aiming for victory”

“There is no doubt about retaining the title although at the same time, we are conscious of the fact that other teams will be aiming for the title as well”

The entire team expresses their gratitude to the Senior Pastor of the Aflame for Christ Ministry for inspiring the formation of this young rugby squad.
