- By DIONISIA TABUREGUCI

TOWER Insurance will open its new Suva hub today as a first of many initiatives this year to mark its 150th anniversary in Fiji.

“Our Suva hub has long been the heart of our Pacific operations and this new building is an investment that demonstrates our commitment to Fiji,” the company said in a statement.

Now offering climate-based parametric insurance cover, Tower lays claim to being the first insurer in the Pacific to allow people to manage their insurance online, “all via My Tower, our self-service, digital platform”.

“From the moment we started in Fiji, we’ve been unwavering in our support of Fijian communities from covering everyday accidents but also enduring catastrophic weather events.

“Our response to a series of devastating cyclones in the 1980s is a true testament to this.

“We paid out more than $45m in claims following Cyclones Oscar and more recently in 2016, Cyclone Winston, the strongest storm ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere devastated the country.

“Roughly 40 per cent of Fiji’s population were impacted, with 32,000 homes destroyed or damaged and 132,000 people displaced.

“We were privileged to play an integral part in Fiji’s response following Cyclone Winston, paying out $9m to our customers, supporting communities and businesses to recover.”

“Fast forward to 2024 and Tower’s Suva hub team of 250 plus now help more people protect the things they love with insurance than ever before, with support for 330,000 customers across Fiji, the wider Pacific and New Zealand.”

The company’s new Suva hub will feature modern work environment and the latest in workplace technology.
