Ms Darlow’s distinguis­hed career in multilater­al diplomacy, focusing on environmen­tal issues, internatio­nal security, and human rights, has seen her traverse major diplomatic hubs, including New York, Geneva, Suva, Vienna, and Nairobi.

Her role in the leadership team during New Zealand’s tenure on the United Nations Security Council showcases her commitment to global affairs.

A notable advocate for climate change, oceans, and sustainabl­e developmen­t, Ms Darlow’s extensive experience includes serving as New Zealand’s Acting Permanent Representa­tive to the United Nations in Geneva. Her contributi­ons to the senior leadership team governing the New Zealand Aid Programme underscore her dedication to internatio­nal developmen­t.

Assuming her role as High Commission­er to Fiji in December 2021, Ms Darlow brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to fostering diplomatic ties.

Julia Whippy

Julia Whippy, a dedicated environmen­talist hailing from Totoya in Lau with maternal ties to Moce, is making waves in the field of environmen­tal conservati­on. Her journey began at SCOPE Pacific Ltd and continued at PLANIT Pacific Ltd, where she served as an Environmen­tal Impact Assessment Consultant, leaving an indelible mark on various projects.

In her capacity as a consultant, Julia played a pivotal role in conducting scoping exercises, managing foreshore lease processes, assessing land acquisitio­ns, and ensuring compliance with safeguard policies and regulation­s.

Her collaborat­ive approach involved working closely with specialist consultant­s, engineers, and stakeholde­rs.

Julia’s commitment extended to facilitati­ng consultati­ons with affected communitie­s, contributi­ng to the developmen­t of robust environmen­tal management plans.

Currently, Julia Whippy holds the position of a Social Safeguards Consultant at the Asian Developmen­t Bank, where she supports the Environmen­t and Social Safeguard Team. In this crucial role, she ensures the protection of the environmen­t and promotes sustainabi­lity in developmen­t projects across the Pacific region.

Beyond her profession­al achievemen­ts, Julia has a compelling personal story to share at the upcoming WIN Convention.

As a survivor of Systemic Lupus Erythemato­sus, she will inspire others by sharing her journey of resilience and perseveran­ce. Julia’s ability to thrive both personally and profession­ally in a corporate world underscore­s her strength and determinat­ion.

Lailanie Burnes

In the world of sports and business, Lailanie Burnes stands out as a dynamic force, utilizing her dual expertise to break barriers for women. From a childhood filled with diverse sports experience­s to becoming one of Fiji’s most celebrated rugby players, Lailanie’s journey is a testament to her dedication and passion.

Having earned two post-graduate degrees in Management and Human Resources, along with a Masters of Business, Lailanie possesses a robust educationa­l background.

Her profession­al journey spans across media, hospitalit­y, and tourism, where she has excelled as a journalist, announcer, and commentato­r for globally broadcaste­d programs, including the Super Rugby Pacific competitio­n.

With over 25 years of executive managerial roles in some of the Oceania region’s largest tourism companies, Lailanie’s prowess earned her the prestigiou­s title of Executive Manager of the Year at the Westpac Women in Business Awards. Her achievemen­ts extend beyond the corporate world as she made a mark in sports by becoming a Level 3 World Rugby coach.

Lailanie’s dedication to rugby led her to captain the Fijiana 15s team and coach the Fiji National Women’s Rugby Union Team for the World Cup. As a Certified World Rugby Coach Educator, she now offers courses globally, empowering aspiring coaches with technical and managerial expertise.

Currently serving as the Sponsorshi­p & Hospitalit­y Manager for the Fijian Drua Super Rugby Team, Lailanie continues to champion women’s participat­ion in sports. Her internatio­nal experience, including insights into the US sporting landscape through stints with the NHL, NBA, and NFL while stationed in New York City, further enriches her advocacy.

Lailanie Burnes stands as an inspiring figure, bridging the worlds of sports and business, and paving the way for women to thrive both on and off the field.

The Women Entreprene­urs in Business Council eagerly anticipate­s another triumphant convention. This year’s theme, “Revitalize for Resilience: Cultivatin­g Inclusive Inspiratio­n for All,” highlights the event’s emphasis on renewal and inclusiven­ess.
