Julia Whippy, a dedicated environmentalist hailing from Totoya in Lau with maternal ties to Moce, is making waves in the field of environmental conservation. Her journey began at SCOPE Pacific Ltd and continued at PLANIT Pacific Ltd, where she served as an Environmental Impact Assessment Consultant, leaving an indelible mark on various projects.
In her capacity as a consultant, Julia played a pivotal role in conducting scoping exercises, managing foreshore lease processes, assessing land acquisitions, and ensuring compliance with safeguard policies and regulations.
Her collaborative approach involved working closely with specialist consultants, engineers, and stakeholders.
Julia’s commitment extended to facilitating consultations with affected communities, contributing to the development of robust environmental management plans.
Currently, Julia Whippy holds the position of a Social Safeguards Consultant at the Asian Development Bank, where she supports the Environment and Social Safeguard Team. In this crucial role, she ensures the protection of the environment and promotes sustainability in development projects across the Pacific region.

In the world of sports and business, Lailanie Burnes stands out as a dynamic force, utilizing her dual expertise to break barriers for women. From a childhood filled with diverse sports experiences to becoming one of Fiji’s most celebrated rugby players, Lailanie’s journey is a testament to her dedication and passion.
Having earned two post-graduate degrees in Management and Human Resources, along with a Masters of Business, Lailanie possesses a robust educational background.
Her professional journey spans across media, hospitality, and tourism, where she has excelled as a journalist, announcer, and commentator for globally broadcasted programs, including the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
With over 25 years of executive managerial roles in some of the Oceania region’s largest tourism companies, Lailanie’s prowess earned her the prestigious title of Executive Manager of the Year at the Westpac Women in Business Awards. Her achievements extend beyond the corporate world as she made a mark in sports by becoming a Level 3 World Rugby coach.
Lailanie’s dedication to rugby led her to captain the Fijiana 15s team and coach the Fiji National Women’s Rugby Union Team for the World Cup. As a Certified World Rugby Coach Educator, she now offers courses globally, empowering aspiring coaches with technical and managerial expertise.
Currently serving as the Sponsorship & Hospitality Manager for the Fijian Drua Super Rugby Team, Lailanie continues to champion women’s participation in sports. Her international experience, including insights into the US sporting landscape through stints with the NHL, NBA, and NFL while stationed in New York City, further enriches her advocacy.
