$11m Keiyasi project
YEARS of travel to and from Sigatoka to access government services or to sell farm produce will soon be a thing of the past for the people of Keiyasi.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka while officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Keiyasi New Town Development project in Navosa yesterday.
The ceremony marked the beginning of phase one of a project estimated at a cost of $11million funded by the Government and would include the development of 27 commercial lots and four industrial sites.
Mr Rabuka said it was a historic day for the Turaga na Kalevu and his people of Nadroga-Navosa because it marked the start of Fiji’s newest town.
“This welcome development speaks of the foresight and generosity of the chiefs and people of Keiyasi,” the Prime Minister said.
“Tikina o Namataku and the landowning unit of Namoilevu, who have offered support for this project by their decision to give little more than nine hectares of their land to be leased as the site of the new Keiyasi Town.
“On behalf of the Coalition Government that I lead and the people of Fiji, I commend you for your charitable spirit and kind gesture.”
Mr Rabuka said phase one of the project would commence with civil works carried out on the site before phase two starts.
“Which will see the construction of civic buildings, public amenities like the market, bus stand and public parks.
“The contractor, Construction Equipment Hire Ltd alongside project manager WesEng Consulting Ltd, both from Lautoka, are hoping to complete the first phase of work in about 18 months.
“It is remarkable that local companies with local expertise are taking the lead in this project.
“And I congratulate the two locallyowned companies for winning the bid to develop Keiyasi Town.”
