Mesu upbeat of chances

FANS and supporters can expect a new and improved Drua side when the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season starts later this month, says Swire Shipping Fijian Drua hooker Mesulame Dolokoto.

The 29-year-old said the side had been training tirelessly over the past months as they look to better their performance this year compared with last season where the side managed to reach the quarter-finals.

“The goal this year is to be better than we were last season, and the boys have been putting in the hard yards over the past few months,” the Flying Fijian said.

The side is set to face the Blues in New Zealand on February 24 for their first official match of the season.

“Looking back to our pre-season match against the Brumbies, we were able to point out our weaknesses and strengths.

“We also had over-development players get some game time and exposure on the field which is good as well.”

Meanwhile, Dolokoto said he was happy with how the new and younger players have been blending in with the squad and was looking forward to working with them throughout the upcoming season.

“Working with this new set of players has been great. They are very talented and bring about gun-power to the side, and we are happy to have them on board.

“The past few months working and training with them has been an eye-opener for senior players like us and I am looking forward to playing with them in the upcoming season.”

Dolokoto is one of the senior members of the side. He is one of the few players who was part of the squad when it first started in 2015, competing in the 2018 National Rugby Championship in Australia.
