Matawalu confirms Skipper Cup double-header

PRINCE Charles Park is set to host a doubleheader for the first round of the Skipper Cup next week, as confirmed by Fiji Rugby Union operations manager and tournament director, Jikoibau Matawalu.

The Yasawa versus Naitasiri match, initially scheduled for Churchill Park, will now be relocated to Nadi’s Prince Charles Park. The change in venue is attributed to Churchill Park hosting an NRL Trial match between the Melbourne Storm and Newcastle Knights.

“We have moved the Yasawa and Naitasiri match to Prince Charles Park. It will be a doubleheader with Nadi versus Lautoka

– match,” Matawalu said.

In a move to enhance the overall Skipper Cup experience for both participants and the audience, Rugby House has reintroduced the promotional relegation concept with a revised format.

This reintroduction involves the top two teams from the Vodafone Vanua and Royal Tea Ranadi playing round-robin games against the bottom two teams from the Skipper Cup and ANZ Marama competitions.

Also, the promotional relegation concept is brought back but with a reviewed format where the top two teams from the Vodafone Vanua and Royal Tea Ranadi will play round-robin games against the bottom two teams from the Skipper Cup and ANZ Marama competitions.

The two top finishing teams after their round-robin games will qualify to the Skipper Cup and ANZ Marama competitions respectfully.

In the Skipper Cup competition, the first round sees Suva take on debutant Ba at HFC Bank Stadium, Nadi hosts Lautoka at Prince Charles Park, Yasawa faces Naitasiri at Prince Charles Park, Macuata hosts Nadroga at Subrail Park in Labasa, and Namosi takes on Tailevu at Thomson Park in Navua.
