Team to showcase talent

- By JOHN CHETTY

THE Nakavu rugby 7s side has been participating in the Fiji Bitter Series for one year now, and they are looking forward to showcasing their talent at the 37th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, which starts today at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Coach Asaeli Tunidau expressed his pride in the team’s journey, coming from a village and seeking opportunities to support their families and gain exposure in the sport.

Despite being in sixth place in the Fiji Bitter series, the Nakavu rugby 7s side is determined to give their best at the upcoming Nawaka 7s.

The coach acknowledged the tough competition but assured the team would put in their utmost effort to secure a win.

“There are a lot of good teams in the competition, we don’t count them out, but we will do our best and try to secure the win at the Nawaka 7s,” Tunidau said.

“Players are really looking forward and training has been all out, since we train six days a week Monday to Saturday, working on our defence and offload passing.’’ he added.

It is worth noting that most of the players on the Nakavu rugby 7s side have no stable employment and rely on farming in Nakavu Village to support their families.

Their participation in the sport is not only a means of showcasing their talent but also a way to earn money to provide for their loved ones.

The team is grateful for the support of their sponsor, Brimstone Investment, and their families who have been a source of encouragement.

They are determined to make the most of this opportunity and hope their performance will catch the eye of selectors, giving them a chance to represent Fiji in international competitions.
