Tuwai effect

FIJIANA BOOSTED BY ICONIC COACH AHEAD OF VANCOUVER 7S

- By MELI LADDPETER

FIJI Airways Fijiana 7s head coach Saiasi Fuli says having two-time gold medalist and international 7s icon Jerry Tuwai as part of their coaching staff has been beneficial for the team as they prepare for the Vancouver 7s.

“Having a former player of such a high calibre has been excellent for the team in terms of preparation,” Fuli said.

“The girls have been working well with Tuwai, and they are all keen and eager to learn from him and to listen to what he has to say.”

Fuli said Tuwai, considerably one of the best 7s players of all time, was a huge bonus to the side.

“We are fortunate to have him with us and share all the experience he has on the rugby field.

“The girls have been showing a lot of enthusiasm and eagerness on the field, and I believe this is because of the influence Tuwai has on them.”

The side finished in 8th place at the Perth 7s earlier this month and will be looking to improve their performance before heading to Vancouver.

“We have gone through what we have to improve on, and the girls have been working hard in the past few weeks of training.

“Tuwai has also been doing oneon-one sessions with the girls, because we want each and every player to grasp and understand what he wants them to learn and they have been enjoying working with him so far.”

The side had their last training session at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday and will leave for Vancouver today.

“We had a good training session today, just doing some finishing and sharpening things out before we leave for the Vancouver 7s.”
