- By MELI LADDPETER

KADAVU Rugby fired out a warning shot to other teams after a strong performance against Nadroga in pre-season trial matches at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

The newly-formed rugby association won the under-20 match 19-15 while the women also came out victorious 36-12. The men’s team went down 24-19.

The Kadavu men’s team will compete in the Vodafone Vanua Championship and open their campaign against Navosa next Saturday. The women’s team will compete in the Royal Tea Ranadi competition and face Ba in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Kadavu under-20 team manager Tubola Turaganivalu said the bond between his players played a huge role in their victory against Nadroga.

“The bond these players have for each other is what carried them through the match. The players trusted and had faith in each other and were able to come out with a favourable result,” he said.

Turaganivalu said playing against Nadroga was no walk in the park and praised the side for their efforts on the field.

“Hats off to the boys’ hard work and consistency on the field, they played like warriors today and we are proud of them.

“Nadroga is one of the best teams in the competition right now, so to come out with a win in their backyard is a big boost for us as we prepare for the Vodafone Vanua Championship next weekend.”

The side has been in camp on Kadavu for the past month and has set their sights on winning the Vanua Championship.

Turaganivalu said there were a lot of takeaways from their match against Nadroga, and the side will be working on all their weaknesses as they prepare for the Vanua Championship.

“A lot of areas we still need to work on after today’s game and will be back to our drawing board to prepare well.”
