Digital arrival cards talks
CONSULTATIONS continue in Suva yesterday on Government’s rollout plans of digital arrival card at Fiji’s borders.
Fiji’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan Filimoni Waqabaca, who opened the event, said Japan was the ideal partner in moving Fiji towards digitisation.
“As we advance to the next planning stage to achieve digitalisation efforts at the points of entry for Fiji, I want to encourage you all, all of you who have a great deal in the way of skills, knowledge, insight and experience to add to our collective ability to inspire further development in this area and contribute to the overall progress of Fiji’s digital transformation agenda,” he said.
The Japan Digital Agency has been chosen to help Fiji with the UNDP playing an instrumental role in facilitating expertise on the initiative.
“Japan’s Digital Agency, particularly its establishment of Visit Japan Web, has significantly improved incoming passenger experiences especially quarantine, immigration, and customs declaration processes at the country’s ports of entry,” said UNDP’s deputy resident representative Yemesrach Workie.
“Today, we aim to learn from Japan’s successful rollout and discuss lessons for Fiji’s implementation.”
Stakeholders include the Ministry of Immigration and Home Affairs supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Government of Japan through Japan’s Digital Agency and relevant government agencies FRCS (Fiji Revenue and Customs Service), Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, Ministry of Health and Bureau of Statistics.
