Scented oils are good for the skin

- By ZIFIRAH VUNILEBA

SCENTED oils have gained wide popularity since it was introduced. One of the guaranteed places that offers a wide range of scented oils is the Suva market which is where one can find Sainimili Ranadi.

She helps manage their stall which was first established by fellow church members.

Hailing and having maternal links to Naitasiri, she has been managing sales at the table and all has been great since she took over.

Sainimili is at the Suva Market every week promoting their products which are also affordable and reliable.

She lives near the same church member who helps her maintain the market table and this has allowed them to efficiently manage the profit and sales from selling the various scented oil bottles.

She said a large number of their customers are university students from other Pacific Island countries.

Many of the customers would come and buy numerous bottles of scented oils at any one time, she said.

Sainimili said the flavours of these fragrances in the oil products include, noni, pineapple, yasi, tiare, Mango, dilo, moringa, guava and gardenia.

They also sell virgin coconut oil. These bottles are all sold in different sizes and quantities to cater for the wide preference of their products.

The flavours of the oils are shipped every month with the help of loved ones from America.

She added these flavours are unique and help maintain a person's health and body from the various features of the oils.

Sainimili has been able to provide for her needs and wants since being involved in the management of their stall at the Suva Market. She urged locals to consider venturing into small businesses and becoming entrepreneurs while also utilising the resources readily available around us such as land and sea.

The base of these oils are all made from virgin coconut oil, according to Sainimili.

Nivea.co.com reports that virgin coconut oil has many benefits which include:

· Defending skin from damaging microorganisms;

Common skin infections such as acne, folliculitis and cellulitis are skin infections caused by fungi and bacteria which the lauric and capric acid in coconut oil help to kill.

· Coconut oil for dry skin is highly moisturising;

The anti-inflammatory properties that coconut oil has means it has the ability to help treat acne, which is an inflammatory condition. Not only this but both lauric and capric acid which are present in coconut oil have been shown to be capable of killing acne that causes bacteria.

· Coconut oil can support healing; Studies have proven that coconut oil has the ability to boost the level of antioxidants and collagen in our body, which both play an important role in the natural regeneration and repair process of our skin.

· Coconut oil can help reduce inflammation;

Improved skin elasticity also means fine lines and wrinkles are less likely to appear. · Coconut oil can help soften skin; Several of the fatty acids that coconut oil contains, such as capric acid, are excellent emollients that help to soften skin.

SALINA NATEVULU plays an important role in the cleanliness of The Fiji Times office in Suva. For more than eight years, she has been looking after the cleanliness of the office, ensuring her other work mates are able to work in a tidy environment.

Hailing from Nailawa, Ra while also having maternal links to Naiyaulevu Village her daily routine remains unchanged over time and she loves what she does daily.

Her role involves cleaning the different departments within The Fiji Times Office and ensuring it’s neat and tidy so workers have a clean environment to work in every day.

The 54-year-old says the schedule she follows helps her complete what is required for her job in more ways than one.

Carrying out her tasks in smaller portions has been effective for her so far and helps her complete daily chores.

This has been Salina’s first job, she said.

Salina said if she heads to a certain department to sweep or wipe surfaces and windows, she will do her tasks in small portions until she is done in one department.

Salina said this skill of multitasking helps her complete all the work she is expected to in a day.

While many choose to carry out a cleaning task individually, Salina said managing more than one task at a time works for her.

She said he work includes sweeping mopping, dusting and disinfecting all areas at the work place.

Salina said this is a routine work and she know how to complete it all by knock off time.

The use of cleaning agents and fragrances helps her during the cleaning process and improves the appearance and smell of the office.

Salina said being an active member of one’s household also ensures tasks and chores are done well and this attitude helps her when she is doing the same thing elsewhere especially in the work place.

As a mother of four sons, she ensures their home is clean and comfortable for members of her household at all times.

She also shared a few cleaning tips which include the importance of:

■ Using the right cleaning agents and products on suitable surfaces as well as

■ Frequently cleaning the bathrooms and rest rooms of your home and doing your cleaning little by little to ensure it is done well.

According to BetterHomes&Gardens.com these are some ways to deep clean rooms:

■ De-clutter before deep cleaning; Find a new place for any visible clutter that does not belong in the room. Save the stuff behind closed doors for another day to help simplify your deep cleaning checklist. Clearing clutter makes deep cleaning easier and seeing those tidy surfaces can help boost your motivation to keep going.

■ Start high, go low;

Tackle large, hard-to-reach surfaces in this order: ceiling, ceiling trim, ceiling light fixtures (including bulbs), walls, the rest of the trim, and baseboards. The best tools for these surfaces are clean microfiber mops, dusters with a telescoping handles, or sanitising cleaning wipes.

Deep clean windows;

Cleaning windows is fairly simple, and the payoff is huge. First, vacuum the sills and tracks.

■ Remove dust from surfaces;

Wipe all remaining hard surfaces (wood furniture, shelves, built-ins, etc.) using furniture cleaner and polish and a soft cloth.

For an extra-quick clean, put a clean cotton tube sock on your dominant hand to dust surfaces, moving objects out of the way with the other hand and

■ Deep clean the floors.
