Civic pride
I HAD the pleasure of meeting a remarkable young man named Alvin Lal, an employee of RB Patel in Labasa.
Despite the bustling environment of his supermarket, this young man diligently completes his duties and gets off at the bus shelter every afternoon. There, he picks up all the rubbish, puts it in his bag, and walks approximately
1.1 km to his home to dispose it. He carries out this selfless act every day.
I was deeply moved by Mr Lal’s dedition cation and felt proud that we still have responsible young citizens like him who perform such acts of kindness and demonstrate civic pride.
May we all aspire to emulate Mr Lal’s commitment to valuing God’s creation and maintaining clean surroundings for a better Fiji. May God bless this young generation. RODNEY CLARENCE RAJ

Ample space is important!
THIS week’s story via the Shopper column was heart-touching since it focused on Nafi Bai who is a board member of the Spinal Injury Association and is bound to a wheelchair. Nafi’s story was exceptional, as it shared the challenges and hurdles faced by those who are shoppers but are bound to a wheelchair. According to Nafi, shoppers on wheelchairs needed better accessibility to shopping centres and supermarkets. For him, accessibility was paramount, and as a wheelchair user, he needed to find out whether the shop that he was going to had easy access and was safe for persons with disabilities. He shared that he also checked on the provision of car park for the disabled, the entrances and signages and the availability of supermarket staff to assist him if the need arose. I believe readers, who are owners of shops and supermarkets, must consider the plight of those who are physically disabled and ensure that their shops and supermarkets are user friendly. I must thank Nafi for coming out open about his condition and expectation. Food for thought for all stakeholders in the business world, as we embark on equality and making provisions for shoppers who are physically disabled. RAJNESH ISHWAR LINGAM Nadawa, Nasinu

For the record
FIJI Correction Service recorded a nil prison escape for the year 2023.
Well, a record to the serving members and I believe a precedent has been set by the acting commissioner. Congratulations! PITA SOROAQALI
