Great human being

-

ANGUS Brayshaw of Melbourne Demons has heeded expert medical advice and retired following a long concussion history. Heaping praise on the beloved star player colleagues said he is above all “a great human being”.

It made me think can that be said of Putin or Netanyahu?

I believe there is no better way for a person to be described than that.

Expect a very competitive season!

THE Fiji Rugby Union has made strides compared with the Fiji Football Association and one of their strengths is the competitive nature of the provincial rugby.

Provincial matches attract a huge crowd and fans are entertained to some exciting and mouthwatering battles. This weekend is no exception, as the 2024 Skipper

Cup kicks off, and rugby fans and enthusiasts can expect an exciting competition.

As a crazy fan, I thank FRU for taking rugby to soaring heights and for the significant improvement in the standard of 15s rugby, including quality of games, player development and upgrading of coaches qualification. There is no doubt that teams competing for the Skipper Cup and the Vodafone Vanua Championship are recruiting qualified and accredited coaches, including strength and conditioning coaches, and medical personnel. Players play better when exposed to a conducive and strong coaching and training environment. Lautoka and Ba will compete in the topflight, while the men from the Garden Island and Kadavu will be tested in the Vanua Championship. Ba faces defending champions Suva, while Nadi will host the Maroons, and Yasawa faces Naitasiri. The Stallions travel to the Friendly North to face Macuata, while Namosi will host neighbours Tailevu. My best wishes to the Stallions! RAJNESH ISHWAR LINGAM Nadawa, Nasinu

School zone

PITA Soroaqali’s policy on school zone police (FT 20/2) should be everyone’s concern. If all schools rural or urban have all the facilities, tools, and technologies this will help parents pick and choose schools in their comfort zone.

This will avoid many unnecessary expenses in educating children. Unfortunately some schools are classed as good or bad according to pass rates. We all would like to see our children achieve education excellence within our comfort zones.

The schools of their choice matters most. They play a major role in child development at every stage in a conducive teaching learning environment.

Free and quality education should be easily accessible to all.

It’s the master key to success. TAHIR ALI

Copy and paste

THE news presented to the readers through print media or internet sources is just a copy and paste of press releases. No journalist seems to be asking the hard questions to get to the bottom of certain issues.

So much has happened recently and all we read are vague, sugarcoating articles. Why isn’t anyone asking about Fiji’s stand at the ICJ or questioning about the refusal of permits to march? Now that we have media freedom, why are journalists scared to ask these questions?

One may question the integrity of journalists in the country and their ethics. The readers deserve to read ‘news’ and not press releases.

Time to be the watchdog of the public as you were with the previous administration.
