Magical touch on hair

HAVING the ability to style and change someone’s hair is something not everyone is skilled at.

Aniltra Chand is one of those with that magical touch and she can bring out the best in your looks.

She has been working at Lagoon Hair and Beauty in Nausori for the past four years, and her journey first began after taking a hairdressi­ng course in 2013.

Although she has yet to complete that course, she said the skills she learned has been of great help to her daily work as a hair dresser.

Ms Chand was born and raised in Suva and lives in Nadawa.

She travels daily to her place of work in Nausori which is about a 45-minute ride by bus from her home. She shared her experience after styling a client for the first time during the course.

She said it was a nerve wrecking experience but she survived and has since gained confidence in dealing with people’s hair and looks.

She was grateful to having an understand­ing client who made the experience less stressful.

Ms Chand said her first customer was awesome and that was why she was able to cope with dealing with different people’s hair.

She thoroughly enjoys her work and exposure as a hairdresse­r.

While there are certain issues at times, correcting errors and liaising with clients shows there are solutions to all problems i we talk about it amicably, says Ms Chand.

“It makes me feel blessed, seeing the smiles on the customers faces and their excitement after their hair is done,” she said.

She first started working at another of their outlets in Suva managed by the same employer until it cloesd down.

When it closed in 2018, she joined their Nausori branch.

With more than 10 years of experience, Ms Chand gave a timely advice encouragin­g women and girls to consider a venture in hairdressi­ng if interested. She encouraged young women to venture into this if they were interested in styling people’s hair, had new ideas as they would thrive in the hairdressi­ng profession. “If young women or anyone out there, wants to be a hairdresse­r, and you have that passion you can pursue this career.

She encouraged young people to step out of their comfort zones and to seize opportunit­ies and chances to upgrade their skills in this profession.
