Drua players in U20 team
FIJI’S under-20 side for the upcoming Oceania Rugby Under-20 Challenge in New Zealand has been named.
Head coach Apisai Sailada expressed his satisfaction with the level of talent in the 30-member squad, stating that the final selection process was very competitive.
“I commend the player’s commitment, which fostered intense competition within the team.
“The squad predominantly comprises of athletes from the High-Performance Program, as well as the prestigious Deans competition and the domestic competitions,” he said.
A pivotal inclusion comes in the form of Fijian Drua half-back Philip Baselala, who is currently an integral member of the Fijian Drua extended squad.
“The inclusion of promising Drua development players Sikeli Basiyalo, Aisea Tuisese, and Aisea Nawai adds to the squad’s depth and potential.”
Sailada says the team is well-prepared and is eager to have a successful campaign in New Zealand for the Oceania Championship.
The team will then shift their focus towards the Junior World Cup in South Africa.
The Oceania Rugby U20s Challenge is set to begin on February 27 in Auckland, New Zealand.
The tournament is highly anticipated and will be a crucial opportunity for the Fiji Under-20 squad to showcase their talent.
