ANIMALS Fiji aided 6336 animals in 2023 that was a notable uptick in its outreach efforts, said co-founder and managing trustee, Casey Quimby.

She said 2023 was the first year since COVID-19 that everything almost felt back to normal.

“It was finally a chance to fully assess all the delays and drastic increase to the dog population due to the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns,” she said.

“It was also an opportunity to start new exciting projects for long-term change, such as our Dog Population Management plan with Lautoka City Council and Ministry of Agriculture in Tavakubu Ward of Lautoka, which included collecting baseline research data and use of One Health policies.”

Animals Fiji also facilitated the adoption of numerous animals, ensuring they found caring homes both domestically and internationally.

“Notably, some of these animals were relocated to more than 17 countries, where they were welcomed into families eager to provide them with love and care.”

“As we start 2024, it is crucial for us to pause and reflect on the 12-year journey of Animals Fiji. This reflection will enable us to understand the challenges ahead and prepare for everything awaiting us in 2024 and beyond.”

She said the surge in assistance underscores Animals Fiji’s ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of animals, further solidifying its reputation as a leading advocate for animal rights and welfare in the region.
