Access to clean water for Tavarau Settlement
THE commissioning of the Tavarau Community ecological purification system water project worth $45,906 is set to benefit and provide clean and safe water to 300 individuals in Tavarau Settlement in Ba.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Rural & Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, noted that access to clean and safe water was a basic human right, and it was essential for the health and wellbeing of all individuals.
“The installation of the ecological purification water system is a testament to the Government’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandate to provide clean and safe water in adequate amounts to all Fijians at all times,” Minister Ditoka said.
“This project is not just about providing water, but also about protecting the environment,” he added.
“The ecological purification system utilises natural processes to clean the water, minimising the use of chemicals and reducing the ecological impact.”
“This aligns perfectly with Fiji’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection,” Minister Ditoka added.
In thanking the stakeholders, he said that the benefits of having access to clean water far outweighs any inconveniences that may have been encountered during the installation process.
Minister Ditoka commended the community members for their patience and cooperation and also highlighted the importance of water conservation.
“Water is a precious resource, and it is our collective responsibility to use it wisely and sustainably,” he encouraged.
“Let us all work together to ensure that future generations have access to clean and safe water, through regular maintenance of this water system.”
