PREFECTS of Nakasi High School were urged to embody resilience and independen­ce as they take on their new role this year.

This was the message relayed to the students by the Office of the Prime Minister's Assistant Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna during the school's prefect induction ceremony last week.

In a Government statement Mr Tubuna emphasised the significan­ce of the prefects' role, highlighti­ng that their selection was based on the recognitio­n of their in-built potential.

"Today marks a pivotal moment in your journey as student leaders," he said.

"You have been entrusted with a great responsibi­lity, and it is essential to cultivate independen­ce and resilience in your leadership approach.

"Know that you are not here by chance, you were not chosen just for the sake of it, your teachers have seen something in you and that is why they know that you have the God given potential to flourish in this field of leadership.

"I want to remind you that this day is pre-ordained. Your investitur­e is pre-blessed as many are called, yet only a few a chosen.

"I urge you all to learn to be independen­t and resilient leaders. Fiji needs a new breed of self-directed individual­s who are not reliant on outside factors to motivate them and push them."

He encouraged the prefects to focus on their abilities and to be productive individual­s.

Head boy, Pita Vosavakadu­a from Lau, expressed gratitude to his hardworkin­g parents and aspires to reciprocat­e their efforts through his future endeavours.

Head girl, Esther Kuva from Serua attributes her success to her faith in God and the unwavering support of her siblings and late mother.

The investitur­e ceremony marked

approach in their leadership journey.

Mr Tubuna during his address also lauded the school for its outstandin­g academic achievemen­ts.

The school had a stellar performanc­e of above 90 per cent in both Year 12 and Year 13 examinatio­n last year.
