Airport rugby wins Nadi final
THE Airport rugby team soared to victory, clinching a 28-23 win against Mosi Steelers during the Nadi Rugby Club games final over the weekend.
Their dominating performance, led by a robust forward and backline pack, secured the triumphant moment.
Last Friday, Airports Fiji CEO Mesake Nawari expressed heartfelt congratulations to the Nadi Rugby Union for their outstanding victories in the Farebrother Sullivan Cup and the ANZ Marama Under 19 Women Trophy.
The celebratory occasion took place at the Flying Fijians lounge at the Nadi International Airport.
During the presentation of the prestigious Farebrother Cup silverware, Nawari commended Nadi Rugby Union for their significant contribution to the local community. He emphasised rugby’s role in bridging cultural divides, empowering girls and women, and fostering social integration.
“I stand with the staff of Fiji Airports to acknowledge your contribution as key and distinguished rugby union club in Fiji. We are grateful indeed for the opportunity,” Nawari said.
“Rugby bridges cultural, religious, ethnic and social divides. Rugby also empowers girls and women, and it also reduces stigma and increases the social and economic integration of marginalised people, minorities and persons with disabilities, and thank you Nadi Rugby Union for being active in this space – and this is what makes rugby and any sport beautiful,” Nawari said.
Affiliated with the Nadi Rugby Union, the Nadi Airport Rugby Club holds a special place in the hearts of Fiji Airports’ staff, families, relatives, and friends.
Nawari acknowledged their dual roles as players and officials, highlighting the natural synergy between Nadi Airport and the local rugby community.
“I have been advised over the years Fiji Airports staff, family, relatives, and friends played for the Nadi Rugby Union teams and also serve as officials.”
