Rent freeze

-

THE rent freeze policy, which has been in existence for many years (a concept executed by the former FijiFirst regime) will now be replaced with a new strategy, as proposed by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission.

Who is Joel Abraham to decree and implement this new rent stabilisation system which will further burden and restrict landlords in justly assessing their rental income?

Mr Abraham indicates that this proposed approach on annual adjustment rates will alleviate the financial strain on tenants. What about the property owners Mr Abraham, who have for the past 16 grueling years been denied their constitutional right to evaluate and appraise their rented properties despite the escalating cost of living?

As a landlord myself, property repairs and maintenance have factually become a lurid nightmare (primarily after tenants vacate) as basic construction material prices have shot through the roof in the last decade. Aren’t landlords not suffering these financial strains as well Mr Abraham? So please quit your dictatorial traits and come up with more feasible recommendations.

You can either leave the rental income notion for the homeowners to resolve or if willing, you are most welcome to come over and fork out the repair costs for my house yourself. In the meantime, I suggest you get in touch with the Consumer Council of Fiji CEO and jointly expose those deceitful businesses who have been duping the vulnerable consumers for years.

Or is CEO Seema Shandil still continuing “discussions” with the Trade Ministry?

Her “talks” are getting longer than our famous Lautoka swimming pool pipeline! NISHANT SINGH
