“I’LL do my talking in the ring.”

These are the words of former super welterweight champion Jese Ravudi on facing New Zealand’s Dylan Archer in a light middleweight bout during the Blue Water Boxing Promotion event today.

Ravudi received the call-up to box at the event with less than a week’s notice after Rakuro Daunivanua pulled out from the bout earlier this week.

“I’ve been training since my last bout in December against Winston Hill, because I know I would be called up for this fight,” the Naitasiri man said.

During the event’s weigh-in in Suva yesterday, Ravudi stood at 69.8 kilograms while his opponent, Archer, stood at 68.9kg.

“I’ve been preparing well, and I know Archer will be going all out for this bout. I’m excited because this will be my first bout for the year, so I am looking forward to it.”

Ravudi paid his respects to Rakuro who is mourning the death of his mother and vowed to fight on his behalf in the ring.

“To my brother Rakuro, I give you my condolences and I will be fighting for the two of us tomorrow.”

His opponent brings with him a fivewin and five-loss record while Ravudi boasts an impressive 16 wins, seven by knockouts, and six losses.

“I’ve seen Archer fight before and I’m expecting a tough battle with him tomorrow night.

“There’s no prediction from me for this fight, but I promise to give my best and may the better boxer win.”

The event at the Vodafone Arena in Suva starts at 5pm and will finish at 10pm.

Meanwhile, there was commotion at the weigh-in between Ubayd Haider and Mohammed Ali during their face-off at Terry Walk in Suva.

Haider is assuring fans and spectators of a knockout in the early rounds of the bout, and the hype is high in the boxing community when the duo take the ring today.

In the main bout of the event, cruiserweight champion Joseph Kwadjo takes on Alivereti Kauyaca.

Kwadjo stood at 87kg during the weighin while Kauyaca tipped the scale at 90.5kg.
