Castaway Island resort holds blood drive
IN an effort to help individuals in need at major hospitals, Castaway Island, Fiji, a premier resort recognised for its dedication to social responsibility and community service, held its third successful blood drive.
The blood donation was sparked by a Castaway host, while being admitted at Lautoka Hospital, desperately needed blood donors. As a result, Castaway Resort promised to hold at least two blood drives per year.
Conducted in collaboration with the Western Blood Drive team at Lautoka Hospital, the blood drive was held at the resort on February 24 from 8am to 4pm.
A total of thirty hosts generously offered their support, demonstrating the community's eagerness to aid in attempts to save lives. From the donors, thirty pints of blood in total were obtained.
Castaway Vuvale enthusiastically embraced the noble idea and came together in favour of this worthy cause.
In addition, the resort was fully supportive of the blood drive team in providing transportation, accommodation and meals for personnel.
Western blood services manager Luisa Daurewa said a blood donation was truly a gift of life a healthy individual could give to those who were sick or injured.
The blood drive was facilitated by the resort's nurse Rokolutui Kapaiwai, who ensured a smooth process for donors and organisers.
Patients in urgent need of transfusions at Lautoka Hospital were the recipients of all blood donations collected.
In view of Castaway's significant impact on the wellbeing of the local community, each donation has the potential to save up to three lives.
Castaway Island Fiji sales and marketing manager Priya Sharma said the resort was committed to future initiatives such as World Health Day, World Tobacco Day, World Drowning Prevention Day, Pinktober Breast Cancer, Movember Prostate Cancer and World AIDS Day for possible celebrations and awareness campaigns.
The resort has affirmed its dedication to organising future blood drives and supporting blood donation efforts within the community moving forward.
