7s, growth and disaster
Fijiana 7s team
SADLY, ever-so-sadly, it is acknowledged yet again, it has been another bad outing for our Fijana 7s team.
In pool play, we embarrassingly had three losses.
What a loss for complimentary words to exchange. Somehow, we appear lethargic. Weilei ko Viti — sa loloma dina. Na madua tale ena lakolako oqo.

Bharat’s growth
BHARAT’S GDP growth for the last quarter is 8.4 per cent and its private consumption economy stands at 63.3 per cent.
This means that Bharat’s economy is more consumption driven and less dependent on exports.
I hope that our Coalition Government takes note of this and not be overly concerned with paying the debt.
Simple economics tells us that people spend money when they have savings and cost of living is lowered.

Recommendations by ILO
I NOTED with interest the article (page 12 of FT 02 /03) with respect to the concerns raised by the ILO ‘s Committee of Experts on the applications of ILO Conventions and Recommendations.
Out if interest, which specific committee report was being referenced here and is it a currently available public document.
The article did not specify. In any case the Government’s official report to the committee’s recommendations — which has been due for 2 years now— will be an interesting read when it becomes a public document, of course! EDWARD BLAKELOCK

Humanitarian disaster
AMERICA has only now realised the magnitude of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and has decided to join the Jordanian effort to airdrop food supplies to the starving Palestinians. Biden’s tube light reaction to the plight of the Palestinians, which many international agencies have been highlighting for a long time, is understandable.
It might prove costly for him as the latest polls show his popularity going significantly south.

Drua left it too late
I WAS upset with the inconsistent performance from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side as our boys left it too late going down 36-39 to the Moana Pasifika whose players prayed and rejoiced as they celebrated a resilient and a fierce fightback.
Down to 13 men for much of the last 15 minutes, Tana Umaga’s entire Pasifika outfit played their hearts out and gave everything they had in the tank.
I was disappointed that we conceded some soft tries because of lapse in concentration and poor discipline.
This Saturday the boys face the Crusaders which have also lost their two opening matches to the Chiefs and Waratahs 33-29 and 37-24, respectively.
The Crusaders and Drua are tied on one point each and occupy 10th and 11th spots on the points table.
The Drua must go back to the drawing board and work on their downfalls. We need to execute our set-pieces and work on our discipline.
This Saturday, the boys have a massive chance to move up on the points table if they beat the Crusaders.
We can’t afford to drop points against teams we are capable of beating.
All the best Mick Byrne and the boys!
